Tasting event on June 20 will benefit youth center

Classic cars encircle the fountain at Marello Youth Retreat Center in Loomis as organizers prepare for the June 20 “Red, Whites, Jazz and Blues” event, which includes a new feature this year called the Marello “Concourse d’Elegance.”
“Reds, Whites, Jazz and Blues,” a wine and food tasting event
with music, will be held Saturday, June 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
on the grounds of Mount St. Joseph Seminary in Loomis.
The fundraising event benefits the Marello Youth Retreat Center on the seminary grounds, which is sponsored by the Oblates of St. Joseph religious order and offers retreats for youth and young adults.
They year the event will also highlight the good work of youth ministry leaders and coordinators with the presentation of the Marello Youth Leadership Awards in collaboration with the Diocese of Sacramento.
Guests will enjoy tastes of red and white wines poured by wineries from Placer County, Lodi, the south Sacramento River and Napa areas. Samples of food from area restaurants will be featured as well as specialty desserts.
A silent auction and raffle activities will be part of the event, with the auction featuring fine art, sports memorabilia, home decorations and jewelry. A new feature this year will be the “Concourse d’Elegance,” a show with selected classic cars.
The event “allows us to turn the generosity of others into meaningful experiences for young people” at the retreat center, said Oblate Father Philip Massetti.
At a 4 p.m. Mass preceding the event, exemplary youth leaders will be recognized to emphasize the important work of those devoted to reaching out to young people.
Jazz music will provide the backdrop to the tasting event. “Jazz N’ Samba” will play until 8 p.m. and “On Air” will play from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
